Download OpenStudio.
Free, open source, AGPLv3. Version 0.1.05, released 8 October 2026.
- Run the installer. It sets up the WebView2 and VC++ prerequisites.
- If SmartScreen warns, choose More info → Run anyway.
- Launch OpenStudio and pick your audio device.
- Open the .dmg and drag OpenStudio to Applications.
- Right-click the app and choose Open (builds are unsigned).
- Allow it in System Settings → Privacy & Security if prompted.
- Open the .deb with Ubuntu App Center or Software, or Linux Mint’s package installer.
- Install the package, then launch OpenStudio from the application menu.
- Select JACK or ALSA in audio settings.
For compatible hosts; requires executable permission and host GTK/WebKit and FFmpeg libraries. Use the .deb on Ubuntu and Linux Mint.
Builds are unsigned. On Windows, SmartScreen may warn on first run. On macOS, right-click OpenStudio and choose Open, then allow it in System Settings → Privacy & Security if prompted. For Linux, open the .deb in your package installer. If it opens Archive Manager, choose Open With and select the package installer. The optional AppImage needs chmod +x. Code signing costs money the project currently spends elsewhere. If you want certainty, verify the checksum above. Before upgrading, back up projects, recordings, presets, NAM models, and cabinet IRs. Projects and presets using retired formats require conversion; renaming a file does not convert it, and automatic migration is not included. Keep the older app for unconverted sessions.

The optional AI Tools have their own hardware notes: what the runtime needs
AI Tools
Stem separation and generation need the AI Tools runtime, installed once from the AI Tools button inside OpenStudio. It is never bundled into the base installer.
AI Tools setupHow update checks work
The app reads public release metadata to tell you a newer build exists, and you can check manually from Help → Check for Updates. It only reads metadata to discover new versions. It does not sign, download, or apply patches silently in the background.
